The adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in education is accelerating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), yet a critical policy gap remains in teacher education. While national strategies emphasize AI readiness across all sectors, teacher educators (TEs) often lack the pedagogical, ethical, and practical guidance needed to model effective GenAI use. Current approaches are fragmented, with uneven institutional adoption and limited professional development. This policy paper examines TEs’ understanding of GenAI, identifies key enablers and disablers of adoption, and proposes strategic actions to support the development of confident, future-ready educators.
